BW: Hello Patrick! Thank you for taking the time out to answer these questions for the Palm Coast Line Dance website. Perhaps you can tell us where you are from and maybe a little bit about how you came to be in Palm Coast? …
PH: Well, Bobbey, I was born and raised in San Francisco, CA. I spent a majority of my life living and working in the Bay Area. I had brief stays along the way in Logan, Utah, Hicksville, NY, Winooski, VT, San Diego, CA, and Quantico, VA. When my parents retired here in 1978 I became a frequent visitor to Palm Coast until 2002 when I moved here. It has been wonderful to see Palm Coast grow as a community for the last 35 years.

BW: Quantico… were you in the military?
PH: Yes, I served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam era from 1967-1969. I taught elementary school - 5th and 6th grades - in Santa Rosa, CA for 27 years until my retirement in 2002.
BW: Thank you for your military service - and also for your service as a teacher. That indeed is also service to our country! I guess it was a natural path to want to continue some kind of teaching here in Palm Coast?
PH: Well, it goes back a little further than 2002…. I have been teaching dance since 1975, in particular, World Folk Dancing. I added teaching Country Western Line Dancing in the early 80’s. Dancing has been a joy in my life since my grandmother taught me to Polka when I was a little boy.
BW: Excellent! I am not surprised at all of the teaching experience you have had. You show confidence and insight while teaching your classes - it obviously comes from your years of experience and love of music and dance. Which brings us to Palm Coast. You have been teaching line dancing at the Columbian Club of Flagler County on Tuesday nights for quite some time and now you have added a Wednesday evening class at the VFW. You are a busy guy here on North Old Kings Road! What can you tell me about your class(es) and maybe present or future expectations?
PH: My class is for anyone who wants to learn to dance and those that already love to dance and want to learn more. It is designed specifically for beginners to beginning intermediate dancers. My goal is to teach basic steps so dancers can progress to more advanced levels. My primary expectations and goals are for dancers to have FUN and to learn in the process.
BW: Thank you, Patrick. Is there anything else you’d like to add to the “Spotlight Interview” ?
PH: I look forward to seeing you all on the dance floor!
BW: We’ll be there!
