I am pleased to share with you this Interview with Pam. What a beautiful lady!
I hope you enjoy "getting to know her" as much as I have.
BW: Hello Pam! It is my pleasure to introduce you as our newest Spotlight personality for our Palm Coast Line Dance website. Welcome!
PH: No problem - thanks for asking me.
BW: For those reading this - Pam is a busy, busy lady instructing line dance at all levels - a very challenging position to hold. Can you tell us how you ended up in the sunshine state teaching line dance?
PH: Certainly! First of all - I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. The majority of my adult life was spent on a 30 acre farm about an hour south of there in Ohio in a little town - actually a village - called Seville. This is where I raised my 3 kids - a son and two daughters - along with horses, cows, pigs, ducks, chickens, St. Bernard’s and a goat.
BW: Wow - That sounds very peaceful, yet hard work I am sure!
..and now here you are in Florida.
PH: Yes, I have lived in Hernando, Florida permanently now for 15 years. It is a lovely and quiet place to live.
BW: ..and your children - do they live nearby? Is that what brought you to Florida?
PH: No, actually, they are quite spread out and away from here - My son and his family live in Lexington, Ky. One daughter lives in California with her husband and 6 dogs, 2 cats and a rabbit. My other daughter lives in Spain with her husband and family who are military.
BW: That sounds like great reasons to travel! When our son-in-law was stationed in Germany, we spent time there - visiting them of course - but also touring many areas of Germany, Austria, Switzerland and even dipped down into Italy and saw the Iceman exhibit! When they were stationed in Vicenza, Italy, my husband and I were excited to look around in Italy! We rode the trains - visited Florence, Rome, Pisa and of course spent quite a bit of time in Vicenza, also. Thank your son-in-law for his service and send a special thank you to your daughter. Being a military wife is a hard, often lonely way of life. The non-military spouse is serving just as the active duty spouse is serving!
(BW) Looking at the map, Hernando is almost 2 1/2 hours south and west of Palm Coast. I have never been to Hernando… - probably the closest I’ve been is Tampa… Tell me about retiring, etc?
PH: When looking at moving, retiring, we decided to move to Florida - ending up in Hernando, Florida. I was retired for several years. Then my husband passed away and I started back to work.. I work for Kids Central, where I run support groups for Relative caregivers raising their grandchildren. I have 2 support group meetings a week. One in Spring Hill, Florida on Tuesday nights and one in Inverness, Florida on Wednesday nights. I also am a personal trainer and teach an exercise class 2 times a week and teach Line Dance many hours a week. My level of line dance instructions are from Ultra beginner to Intermediate / Advanced.
BW: That is so awesome! First of all I recognize it takes a certain kind of person to be a line dance instructor - its hard work - time consuming, and you must have incredible brain power and stamina…. How do you do it? to what do you attribute your success to?
PH: I love teaching line dance....and have been doing it for about 10 years now. I also have a TIME TO DANCE SOCIAL every month in Lecanto, Florida. And will also be starting to have a TIME TO DANCE SHOPPE~......this is not a work shop but just a event where instructors come and teach a dance that they might have learned at a workshop...or an instructor wants to bring back an old classic. This is a new venture that will start in September, and I have 3 more scheduled for 2016.
BW: That sounds very exciting - and more work! It must be very rewarding for you.
PH: My first priority is Kids Central, but my love is teaching Line Dance. I love the variety of music that we dance to and I love all my students. I teach in a gated community, only members can take part in the classes. We have a wonderful line dance family here.
BW: Well, I think you are a remarkable woman and your students are very lucky to have you. I would have to say your organizational skills are very good, too, to be able to do so much at a time! Thank you for sharing some of that precious time with us here today. Thank you !
PH: …and thank you for having me!
BW: Another fine example of our Line Dance community!
